I follow a Shamanic Spiritual Path and have for over a decade.
What is Shamanism;
Shamanism is more about LIFE than about the After-Life. It is a personal understanding of how we are an intricate part of LIFE and how we are actually connected with everything around us, not in theory but in actual personal experience. Shamanism is based more on what one experiences, then on what is actually taught. Teachers of Shamanism, and Shamans, can guide one through the 3 Realms of Reality, the 4 Kingdoms, and the 4 Directions, but it is what one experiences that is paramount.
I met Alannah in 2000 as she was giving a workshop on Spirit Journeys where we were to meet our personal Animal Totem. I was very skeptical about the whole thing; however, I kept my Belief open to the possibility. My skepticism was based on the fact that I did not know Alannah, and like most Spiritual topics, I felt were often based on a Belief, rather than anything real. What I actually experienced in the workshop totally blew away my skepticism and I ended up studying with Alannah for 3 years - experiencing the Medicine Wheel, Spirit Journeys, and working with the Energy Realm. It was an amazing 3 years and I learned and experienced a lot; the most paramount issue with Alannah was the work with the Energy Realm and how truly real and effective the Energy Realm has on our Physical Life.
I met Lee in 2003. Lee was not really open to teaching me, being a white male 50+, she was unsure of my true commitment to the teachings. It took me some effort to convince Lee to teach me. I studied with Lee for 6 years - experiencing the Talking Stick, Sweatlodge, Sacred Pipe and more in-depth Smudging rituals. In 2006 Lee had a Pipe-maker bring me my Pipe from New Mexico. The Pipe was in its raw form with just the holes drilled out: I had to carve my own Pipe. I also had to do a 3 day vision fast every spring for 4 years (1 fast for each of the 4 Directions). The spring of 2009 I did my last fast and received my Community Pipe. Lee also gave me my Spirit Name, and the teachings about Spirit Names. Outside of the Sacred Pipe, the paramount issue with Lee was working with the Spirit Realm and how we are not alone.
The experiences of these teachings have removed any doubts that I may have had of the authentic value of Shamanism. It is beyond Belief to a deeper sense of KNOWING.
Usui Reiki:
Usui Reiki (Ray-Key) is a Healing Tradition from Japan that works with the Energy Realm. The practitioner channels the Energy from the Source to the recipient's Energy Body. It is with the understanding that with a fully energized Energy Body the Physical Body is able to operate at its full potential.
I received my 1st Degree of Usui Reiki healing tradition in the fall of 2002. The 1st Degree certificate is the Student Certificate and it begins my 5 years of studying this healing tradition. This certificate centers on 'Self-Healing'. The Reiki healed my migraine headaches that I had experienced two or three attacks per year for as long as I can remember. I have not had a migraine since 2002. As Reiki channels the Energy from the source it works extremely well with the teachings I was also having with Alannah about the Energy Realm. Distance healing is not taught until the 2nd Degree; however, with the teachings of the Energy Realm with Alannah I was curious if I could do a distance healing by combining the Reiki teachings with my experience of the Energy Realm. A friend of mine had been diagnosed with Brain Cancer and was having a challenging time. Late one night I decided to visit my friend on a Spiritual level and I projected my consciousness to her place where I knew she would be asleep. My consciousness was standing at the foot of her bed and I asked her spirit if she would permit me to give her a Reiki treatment as she slept. I was a little surprised to see her spirit floating above the bed and she smiled at me and gave me her permission. I gave her a long Reiki session focusing on isolating the Cancer and energizing her body to fight the Cancer. I did not tell anyone that I was doing this; however, early the next morning I received a phone call from my friend 'thanking me' for the visit and the Reiki session. I was stunned as I did not know that she was consciously aware of my visit. It did confirm to me that both the projecting of my consciousness and the Reiki actually works, it is not just in my head. I spent 3 years studying Usui Reiki.
In the fall of 2005 I received my 2nd Degree Certificate that is the 'Practitioner' certificate and I started my Reiki Practice. In the spring of 2007 I received my 3rd Degree Certificate 'Master/Teacher' certificate. I decided I needed the 3rd Degree so that I could give my Reiki clients the 1st Degree attunements so they could do some 'Self-healing' between our sessions. I also developed my own Reiki training program, where the 1st and 2nd Degree certificates are taught over 4 full days each and spread over 2 weekends. I do not agree with the single day or single weekend workshops for teaching this healing tradition.
I have found that the Usui Reiki tradition works extremely well with the Shamanic tradition. Reiki brings more of the Energy Realm work, Shamanism brings the Spirit Realm and the two create a powerful healing environment.
Crystals & Stones:
I have been working with the Mineral Kingdom in some form or another most of my adult life. Ever since my Grandfather showed me my first Tiger-eye stone when I was 9 years old, I have been amazed with the natural beauty and expression of the Mineral Kingdom.
I met Gail in 2000; she was giving workshops on the metaphysical qualities of Crystals and Stones. I studied with Gail for a year, learning to connect with these Elders that are the Mineral Kingdom. It was with Gail that I first experienced the "Laying-on-of-Stones" that was truly inspiring.
I did many years of 'self-study' concerning the Crystals and Stones. I studied with the books of some of the more reputable authors on the Mineral Kingdom - Melody "Love is in the Earth - A Kaleidoscope of Crystals" and "Love is in the Earth - Laying-on-of-Stones" and Naisha Ahsian & Robert Simmons "Book of Stones" and Judy Hall "Crystal Bible", to name a few, there are others that I found extremely insightful but not as well known.
This 'self-study' was also supported with the Shamanic teachings. These teachings talks about the 4 Kingdoms as intricate part of LIFE. Alannah worked mostly with the Animal Kingdom, Lee worked mostly with the Plant Kingdom, and they both encouraged me in working with the Crystals & Stones.
The books work mostly with the ENERGY of the different Crystals & Stones, the Shamanic teachings taught me to go deeper to their SPIRIT.
In 2007 I was doing my Reiki Practice out of the "North Shore Center for Spiritual Living" in North Vancouver. The center asked me to organize a type of "Crystal Meditation" to offer at the center. It took me a few months to come up with "Crystal Journeys" program.
Crystal Journeys:
Crystal Journeys is a 16 week program where we meditate with a single family* of Crystal once a week for 4 weeks. We change the family of Crystal in the 5th week and repeat for 4 weeks. At the end of 16 weeks we have meditated with 4 different families of Crystals, 4 weeks with each family.
* A family is a type of Crystal - Citrine is one family, Amethyst is another family, etcetera. Each type of Crystal I refer to as a family.
The intention of this program was to re-sensitize ourselves to the Energy of the Mineral Kingdom. This Energy is subtle and we have become desensitized to this Energy. I work with the teachings of the Medicine Wheel and the 4 directions, the 4 weeks with each family is 1 week for each of the 4 directions, and this is the same for the 4 different families.
The center was concerned on 2 fronts - 16 weeks was too long to hold everyone, and the only evening available to have the meditations was Saturday. It was felt that it would be next to impossible to get people out to a Crystal Meditation on Saturday evenings.
In the fall of 2007 we went ahead with the Crystal Journey meditations and it was the most popular meditation at the center. It averaged about 12 participants every Saturday for the full 16 weeks. During the Christmas and New Year time it dropped to around 8 participants.
Since 2007 I have refined this program to move deeper than just the Energy of the different families of Crystals to their Spirit. What makes this program so popular is that it is based on what the individual experiences more than what I can tell them about the different families.
Melody;
In the fall of 2010 I met Melody the author and studied with her on the Art of "Laying-on-of-Stones" and the Art of creating "Gem Elixirs". Melody has been working with the Mineral Kingdom for well over 30 years and as well as being a reputable author she holds degrees in mathematics and approaches the Crystals with a somewhat scientific view. I received her "Master of Crystology" certificate.
I work with the Mineral Kingdom, much like other Shamans work with the Plant and Animal Kingdoms.
